Come Serve with World Impact Dallas

Information for Summer Missions 2007 to World Impact Dallas

Bring a group from your church/organization for a week-long mission trip to serve the urban low income communities of Dallas. Youth group teams should be 9th grade and higher and have a minimum of three adult sponsors. Your team will lead worship, crafts, & games for K-6th graders in South Dallas or Vickery Meadows. Your team will also take on a work project(s) with a goal to complete it by week's end. We still have open weeks for the summer of 2007:

All items on the following Checklist will help you in planning for a missions trip with World Impact Dallas:

___ Each mission team member needs to read or review Out of Ashes by Keith Phillips

We would like your team to be informed about cross-cultural missions in the inner city. It will be beneficial for you to have knowledge and experience go hand-in-hand. Leaders can read the book and then review the book with the team or require the entire team to read the book themselves. Books can be purchased and sent to you for $10 each. Simply send a check made out to World Impact Dallas at our address at 2017 S. Ervay, Dallas, TX 75215, with your request for xx no. of books and a shipping address.

___ Housing

The team is invited to stay at the World Impact Dallas ministry center for $7 per person per night (to cover utilities). There are two large rooms (one for males, one for females) with a shower, sink, and toilet in each room. There are four additional bathrooms (with a sink and toilet) in the building.

___ Food

Our Ministry Center has two fully functional kitchens available for use. There is a refrigerator, freezer, stove/oven, dishwasher, microwave, etc.

___ Transportation

Please provide own transportation. If you bring 15-passengers vans, we will need them to help pick up kids. It is wise to have a runner during the week to make trips to Home Depot, Wal-Mart, etc. during the day.

___ Work Projects

We ask each person to bring $50 to invest in work projects. Please email Amy Utigard at autigard@worldimpact.org to discuss which work project your team would like to commit to.

___ Prepare for VBS with the children.

Bible lesson -

Praise & Worship Ceremony- This should be a fun and exciting time of worship for everyone. You should have a leader or a worship team that can be enthusiastic and can show the kids motions to the songs (and the rest of your group should be excited and helping the children with the motions to the song.).

Games- Each day, prepare high energy, age-appropriate games. The 5th-6th grade class enjoy games that high-schoolers would enjoy. Games can be either inside or outside.

Crafts- Prepare two days of crafts for the kids. The craft should be a visual presentation of the day's lesson to help the kids remember what they have learned. Have all of your materials ready in advance. An adult leader should explain the craft and several helpers on the “craft team” should assist the kids as needed. Our 5th-6th grade class are not very receptive to the same kind of crafts the K-2nd graders enjoy, so brainstorm about cool yet mature craft projects for them.

Field Trips- Fridays will be our field trip days. We can take a sack lunch with us. Choose a field trip (include a budget for this day if necessary). The entire mission team, all the kids, and the interns will enjoy this last day together on the field trip. See Field Trip Options list for suggestions.

Lunch - Please provide 4 days of lunch for the kids and yourselves. Chili hot dogs, mac & cheese, ham & cheese sandwiches, spaghetti, etc. are some options for lunch. Please try to include something healthy in the meal (carrot sticks, applesauce, etc.) Have a leader in the kitchen at all times during Summer Camp. No children will be allowed in the kitchen. Also, please purchase a box of Flavor-Ice for the teachers to hand out at the end of the day (for good behavior). If you serve dessert, only ONE serving per child.

When you arrive, we will have an orientation with your team about the Out of Ashes book, Cross-Cultural Ministry, Safety, & Children’s Discipline Guidelines.
